Why Wild-type?
n.
The typical form of an organism, strain, gene, or characteristic as it occurs in nature, as distinguished from mutant forms that may result from selective breeding.
Our name reflects the fact that we believe in the Web Standards initiative.
In a nutshell:
” The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), along with other groups and standards bodies, has established technologies for creating and interpreting web-based content. These technologies, which we call “web standards,” are carefully designed to deliver the greatest benefits to the greatest number of web users while ensuring the long-term viability of any document published on the Web. ” -Web Standards Project
When web designers and developers begin to endorse a set of “best practices” for website building technologies, production costs are lowered while at the same time, websites become more accessible to more people through a larger variety of Internet devices.
This then becomes the “typical form” or the “wild-type” characteristic of website architecture.
